Establishing m/2 guard

Rick Macauley showed us this move at his gi seminar. Thanks to Andrew for helping me with my notes.

  1. Establish a good half guard with good posture and the underhook with your outside arm.

  2. Use your inside leg to push his trapped leg straight out.

  3. Underhook free leg and pull your head beside it using your inside arm.

  4. At the same time, place outside foot under his ankle with your knee tight on the other side. Your inside foot goes over top his trapped leg. This locks his leg so he can't move it out.

  5. Lift opponent's trapped leg with own feet, creating enough space to shoot your outside arm through. This underhook helps you prevent the opponent from attacking with a kimura.

I have been calling this "m/2" guard - short for Macauley's half guard. It feels a lot like x-guard, but different. Jaysculls calls this the deep half guard.
