Cobra clutch

The cobra clutch is an old pro wrestling move. It is like a lapel choke using your own arm instead of a collar. So it is very good in no-gi. I really like this submission.

  1. Establish a gift wrap from mount. Pull his arm so he is on his side, while you switch to a technical mount. Keep the gift wrap tight.

  2. Ride your knee up behind his shoulders so Uke is braced from turning flat again. your other leg stays around his hips for control.

  3. Make your free hand into a "knife edge" or a "judo chop" with the fingers straight and extended.

  4. Feed your hand under his bicep on the trapped arm. This is the side close to you. Your straight fingers helps you wedge it into the gift wrap.

  5. Keep you arm right by his neck. There are two ways to proceed:

    • Make your hand into a fist and press it into his neck

    • Slide your forearm by his neck and grip your own arm behind his neck.

The option you chose depends on the person and how much pressure you can exert on him.

  6. Keeping contact of his neck, straighten both your arms. Tap!

In another variation, you crush his windpipe instead of cut off his blood supply. I prefer the blood choke version most of the time. It is also called a million dollar dream or simply a cobra choke. It is Matt Hamill's and Sargent Slaughter's favorite move. Here's another funny cobra choke thread.
